The advent of split-screen baby monitors has revolutionized the way parents and caregivers keep an eye on their little ones, providing an unparalleled convenience that I have come to deeply appreciate. At its core, the essence of having a split-screen baby monitor lies in its ability to offer simultaneous views of multiple children or different angles of the same room, all on a single display. This feature is not just about monitoring; it’s about ensuring safety, comfort, and peace of mind in a way that was previously unattainable.

I have fallen in love with split-screen baby monitors for several reasons, but the convenience they offer is paramount. Being able to glance at a screen and instantly check on my twins sleeping in separate cribs, or monitor my toddler’s playtime while the newborn naps, has been a game-changer. It’s this ability to be in two places at once that excites me the most about these devices. The peace of mind that comes from knowing I can see and hear my children, regardless of where they are in the house, or even if I’m managing multiple tasks, is invaluable.

What’s more, my journey through the world of split-screen baby monitors has provided me with deep insight into the various models available on the market. From understanding the nuances of camera resolution and night vision capabilities to appreciating the importance of secure, interference-free transmission and user-friendly interfaces, my exploration has been thorough. I’ve delved into the specifics of each model, considering factors such as the ease of adding additional cameras, the flexibility of camera positioning, and the overall reliability of the system.

This journey has not only made me an advocate for split-screen baby monitors but has also equipped me with the knowledge to help others navigate their options. Whether it’s sharing advice on selecting a monitor that best fits a family’s needs or explaining how to maximize the potential of their device, my excitement and deep understanding of these monitors shine through. In a world where multitasking has become a necessity, split-screen baby monitors stand out as an essential tool for modern parenting, offering a blend of security, convenience, and technology that can make the challenging journey of parenthood just a little bit easier.

Split-Screen vs Scan/Screen-switching:

Split-screen and screen-switching baby monitors are two technologies designed to help parents keep an eye on their babies, especially when managing multiple children or monitoring different rooms.

Each has its unique features, benefits, and limitations. Understanding these can help you choose the most suitable option for your specific needs.

Here’s a breakdown of split-screen versus multi-camera switching baby monitors:

Split-Screen Baby Monitors

Features and Benefits:

  • Simultaneous Viewing: Split-screen monitors display feeds from multiple cameras on one screen simultaneously. This is particularly useful for watching over twins in separate cribs, monitoring a toddler and an infant at the same time, or keeping an eye on different rooms.
  • Constant Awareness: Because all camera feeds are displayed at once, parents can maintain constant awareness of each situation without having to switch views manually.
  • Customizable Layouts: Some models allow users to customize how the screen is split, enabling prioritization of one feed over others or adjusting the layout according to preference.

Limitations:

  • Screen Size: The individual camera feeds are smaller, which might make it more challenging to see finer details compared to full-screen views.
  • Cost: Split-screen monitors often come at a higher price point due to the advanced technology required to support multiple camera feeds simultaneously.

Screen-Switching Baby Monitors

Features and Benefits:

  • Single Feed Focus: These monitors automatically switch between camera feeds at set intervals, allowing parents to focus on one child or room at a time. This can provide a clearer, full-screen view of each area being monitored.
  • Simplicity: Screen-switching monitors tend to be more straightforward and less expensive than their split-screen counterparts, making them a good option for those who prefer simplicity or have a tighter budget.

Limitations:

  • Delayed Awareness: The automatic or manual switching mechanism means you might not have immediate visual access to all areas or children being monitored. There could be a delay in noticing an issue because the feed was on a different camera.
  • User Intervention Required: For models that require manual switching, parents need to actively change the camera view, which might not be ideal during busy or critical moments.

Reviews of the Best Split Screen Baby Monitors Today:

Babysense 5.5″ Maxview Baby Monitor:

If you have infants that require sleep-aid soothing nightlights and want the best split-screen monitor without WiFI, Babysense 5.5-inch Maxview Baby Monitor is your best choice ahead of Momcozy, MonBaby, Bonoch and VAVA in this updated 2024 list.

This 2024 release is an upgrade to its 5-inch and 4.3-inch split screen monitors that pretty much offered what other average models such as Momcozy and Monbaby offer.

This new release is a game changer and I recently, had the pleasure of testing the Babysense 5.5-inch Split-Screen Baby Monitor, and I must say, it has truly redefined my monitoring experience, especially for keeping tabs on two kids. No way I can ever think of using another non-wifi split-screen model for my two kiddos and this is my gospel now to all other moms with 2 kids under 2 and value safety. Just get Babysense Maxview!

With its array of thoughtfully designed features, it is now my top favorite and honestly the overall best split-screen monitor available in the market today. I keep updating this article to reflect new models released but as of March 2024, this is the pick to get for local monitoring.

The split-screen functionality paired with two high-definition cameras allows me to monitor both of my children simultaneously on a crystal-clear, full HD display. What sets this system apart is the seamless audio focus shift, which alternates every 15 seconds through SCAN mode, ensuring I’m always in tune with both environments. The ability to add up to four cameras is a game-changer, offering expansive coverage that grows with my family’s needs.

One of the standout features for me is the monitor’s hack-proof technology, providing peace of mind with secure, crystal-clear viewing over a commendable 1000ft range. The flexibility to pan, tilt, and zoom up to 4x allows me to keep a vigilant eye on my little ones, no matter where they are in the house.

The Babysense monitor excels in comforting and soothing capabilities, featuring a unique 6-color RGB night light, two-way audio, and a selection of white noise and lullabies. These features are invaluable for creating a calming atmosphere for my children, day or night. The advanced IR night vision ensures I’m never left in the dark about my children’s safety and well-being.

Investing in this monitor truly means investing in peace of mind. The setup was straightforward, with the monitor boasting a large, easy-to-navigate screen and almost zero lag in video playback. The portability of the unit, combined with its large, rechargeable battery, offers extended monitoring without the constant need for recharging.

Despite its numerous strengths, there are a few areas where the Babysense monitor could see improvement. The night vision and zoom functionalities, while adequate, do not match up to some competitors, with zoomed images appearing grainy. The temperature gauge’s accuracy diminishes when wall-mounted, and the white noise feature could benefit from a volume boost. Additionally, the monitor’s battery life and charging time are areas where enhancements would be welcomed.

Overall, the Babysense 5.5-inch Split-Screen Baby Monitor stands out as a top-tier choice for families with multiple children. Its combination of security, clarity, and soothing features, along with the ability to monitor multiple rooms simultaneously, makes it a compelling option for any parent. While it has its minor drawbacks, its strengths far outweigh them, making it a highly recommended tool in the parenting arsenal.

Pros:

  • Has Eco-mode
  • Long-lasting battery of up to 20 hours on eco-mode
  • Flexibility to use both scan and split-screen mode
  • Comes with 3 cameras
  • Easy controls using the buttons on the right of the parent unit
  • Very intuitive 2-way talk feature and super helpful 6 RGB adjustable nightlight

Cons:

  • Relatively more expensive than other models such as Momcozy BM01

Arenti Baby Monitor:

This European-based brand is also our top recommendation for best monitors with recording.

LeapFrog LF915:

LeapFrog LF915 is my top choice for a multi-camera viewing monitor to install in various rooms, thanks to its super wide-angle lens of up to 110 degrees, guaranteeing perfect room coverage. Unmatched Clarity and Detail

The LeapFrog LF915-2HD boasts a 5-inch 720p HD Color LCD display that provides high-definition video transmission, allowing parents to observe their little ones with unmatched clarity. With its 360-degree pan and tilt functionality, coupled with an impressive 8X zoom and a 110-degree wide-angle lens, the LF915-2HD achieves panoramic viewing like no other. This feature permits parents to feel closer to their baby, capturing every moment with the precision and detail it deserves.

Advanced Color Night Vision

The monitor’s color night vision camera is a significant advancement over traditional black and white night vision technology. This feature ensures that parents can see their baby in color under ultra-low-light conditions, providing peace of mind throughout the night. It emerged as our top baby monitor with night vision.

Adaptive, Dimmable Night Light

The built-in night light, which adjusts to the brightness of the room, offers gentle illumination to comfort your baby in the dark. Easily controlled from the parent viewer, this adaptive feature enhances the nursery’s ambiance, ensuring your little one feels safe and secure.

Intelligent Sensor Alerts

Equipped with smart sensors for sound, motion, temperature, and humidity, the LF915-2HD is always on guard. These sensors not only alert parents to changes in the nursery but can also activate the night light and soothing sounds automatically when crying is detected, all monitored through the parent unit.

Pros:

  • Crystal-clear day and night video quality.
  • Customizable night lights in various colors, controllable via the monitor.
  • Features like motion and noise activation, along with the ability to play sounds, enhance monitoring.
  • The split-screen capability is a standout, perfect for monitoring siblings simultaneously.

Cons:

  • The monitor does not provide the capability to visibly confirm subtle movements, such as breathing, which may necessitate physical checks.
  • Some users may find the picture quality grainy in daylight.
  • The user interface and settings can be complex, with a lack of quick volume adjustment.
  • Manual switching between day and night vision, instead of automatic transitioning, adds a step for users.

MoonyBaby Split-Screen Dual Camera Monitor:

If you are looking for a highly secure 2-camera monito that offers side-by-side viewing and advanced technology to minimize EMF radiation emissions, Moonybaby Split 60 is your go-to model. To keep your ears safe, you can benefits from automated noise reduction for crystal-clear audi, two features lacking in Babysense above.

The Moonybaby Split 60 model also surpases the Babysense in terms of battery life, as its batteries can last for up to 20 days on eco-mode, almost 20 days more than Babysense can do. The 20-hour advertised didn’t really measure up in real life. I could only get 2 days max even on sleep mode throughout.

What I also found to be lacking from Split 60 over Babysense S2 is the quality of images and videos. I found the sound to be very clear just as Babysense but its images were at times pixalated.

In addition to the long battery life, the 5-inch Moonybaby above (Split 60) also has a super long range of 1000 ft., remote pan and tilt camera, 2-way talk, and a wide viewing lens.

After careful review and comparison with Moonybaby, it’s a close contender, Babysense 5-inch LCD came top and is better than Moonybaby Split 50, Split 55, and Split 60, and all others in this list because of the following key reasons;

  • Babysense 5-inch has better zoom capabilities of up to 4x which Moonybaby’s has dismal zoom capabilities – could be improved
  • MoonyBaby screens are non-HD with lower resolution compared to Babysense 5-inch LCD HD screen with 720p resolution.
  • Moonybaby utilizes an EMF-reduction technology to reduce the amount of radiation in the baby nursery
  • On split-screen mode, MoonyBaby does not give temperature alert and battery level, while Babysense shows.
  • Moonybaby has an active noise reducring technology similar to Infant Optics DXR 8 Pro, a feature missing in VAVA, Babysense and JouSecu
Features:
Has a vivid 4.3” LCD color video screen that provides you with a clear view of what your baby is doing
Uses a 2.4GHx FHSS Technology and a wide range transmission of 960ft that provides 24/7 undisrupted connection with very clear audio and video
Has a superior 2-way talkback technology that allows you to sing a lullaby to your child for a calm sleeps session
Has a 2* digital zoom with an integrated and fully motorized Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) function, which enables you to watch the baby from any angle of her room. The baby monitor has a manual pan of up to 360 degrees and a Tilt of up to 90 degrees.
Has an Auto Infrared Night Vision that allows you to watch your baby even in darkness
Has a long battery life that ensures you long recordings of your baby
It has a split-screen on the Parent Unit, which enables you to monitor different angles of the baby’s room at the same time.

HiPP/VAVA Baby Monitor with Split-screen

For heavy sleepers or deaf parents seeking a split-screen IPS-display monitor with multiple notification options, including sound and LED lights, the HiPP Dual Camera monitor is the ultimate choice.

This camera makes it easy for you to monitor your little ones in 2 separate rooms by viewing them simultaneously side by side on a 5-inch IPS screen known to be considerably better than LCD screen used by Babysense and Moonybaby above.

With a 7-volume alert and LED light indicators, you can rest assured that you will be notified by visual and audible alarms in case of any changes in your baby’s room. The alert sensitivity can also be adjusted to cater to your specific needs.

The split-screen feature is not the only thing that sets this monitor apart from others on the market. The HiPP Dual Camera monitor also offers a wide range of features such as room temperature monitoring, alarm settings and 2-way talk.

Although Babysense offers a camera with a 2K definition, the HiPP monitor stands out with its superior IPS displays. These displays guarantee high-quality images and videos on the split-screen IPS screen.

HiPP’s design and build is great and it won the 2018 Red Dot Design Awards for Baby products at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES). You’ll notice that HiPP (formely VAVA Monitor) used quality materials to build the camera and the screen as they are sturdy and for stability, the base of the cameras are heavier with rubber mini-stands. The rubber makes them less prone to sliding off furniture or tables.

Vava Split-Screen Baby Monitor
HiPP Split Screen Monitor

Great things to say about quick installation for this monitor. Although I must mention that this monitor comes with mounting for flat surface such as a table and does not give you flexibility to mount on wall or ceiling like Bonoch monitor below. If you need to install it on a wall, you’ll need to purchase seperate mounting kit.

This device is perfect for parents who have twins or children in different rooms. With two simultaneous feeds, you can keep an eye on both of your little ones at the same time. Plus, the Dual Feed Baby Monitor comes with a built-in nightlight to help soothe your babies when they’re trying to sleep.

You never have to worry about losing connection with your little ones again with VAVA’s 900 ft. transmission range, about 60 ft less than Babysense’s range and 100 ft less than MoonyBaby Split 60 range of 1000 ft.

No more messy wires! The freedom of no cords comes to your monitor with this sleek device. You can bring your screen with you as you move around the house – perfect for following recipes in the kitchen or keeping an eye on the baby in another room.

Whether you’re watching the kids play in the yard or keeping an eye on your pet, this camera has easy zoom, autofocus, and full angle mobility to ensure you get the perfect view. You can also utilize Vava’s 2x and 4x zoom options that give you the ability to get close detail without losing quality.

The Automatic Night Mode on the Vava Split-screen Baby monitor ensures that you can always see your baby, even in the middle of the night. Whether you’re trying to get a few more hours of sleep or just want to check in on your little one during their midnight feeding, this feature makes it easy to keep an eye on them.

With up to 18 hours of audio-only mode and up to 10 hours of audiovisual mode, this monitor will keep you connected even when you’re not in the room.

HiPP/Vava monitor with split-screen is expandable and you can connect up to 4 cameras and keep an eye on multiple rooms at once – perfect for large homes or busy families.

The screen has 8 levels of brightness which enables you to adjust according to the level that is ideal for you at any time. For example, when it’s totally dark at night, you may want to keep the level of brightness at under 3. I have found level 1 or 2 to work best as you can clearly see your twins or multiple kids yet the brightness wouldn’t hurt your eyes.

Image showing VAVA's 2 video footages on same screen split side by side
Image showing VAVA’s 2 video footages on the same screen split side by side

To give you more flexibility to the audio output, Vava split-screen video baby monitor has 7 levels of volume which you can adjust to fit your preferred level that wouldn’t be too loud and can still hear the audio from your babies’ rooms.

Similar to bonoch Baby Monitor, HiPP monitor gives you the option of scan mode or split-screen mode. You can choose to see your two kids simultaneously on the same screen and you can also choose to have the screen switch automatically from one camera feed to another every 15 seconds. The split-screen feature works when you have two cameras but switches every 15 seconds when you have more than 2 cameras. The sound/audio is only available on the active camera that you are currently viewing.

This screen-switch feature is common with non-split screen expandable cameras that you can set a particular time interval where the feed will switch from one camera to another. Infant Optics DXR 8 Pro uses this feature and switches automatically from one camera feed to another every 10 seconds. However, there are several time options that you can choose when setting the intervals to select.

It also has an alarm feeding function that you can set for 2, 4, or 6 hours depending on your baby’s feeding schedule which is unique to HiPP and is missing with Babysense, MoonyBaby and Bonoch dual monitors.

When the alarm is set, it beeps 30 seconds before the set time and an icon will show on the screen to remind you that it is time to feed your baby. You can also customize the settings for each camera so that you can receive alerts when there is motion or sound in the room.

Pros;

  • Great quality images on its 5-inch HD screen
  • Great pan and tilt feature which you can remotely do using the parent unit controls
  • Long battery life thanks to its 4500 mAh battery capacity that enables it to last for up to 18 hours
  • Secure connection with its Wifi-free transmission thanks to FHSS connection which guarantees 100% security of signals in transit
  • Split-screen viewing with screen showing room temperature, audio symbol (wave) for the active camera, timer/alarm, and time functions
  • 2-way talkback that enables you to talk to your baby. Note that you can only talk to one baby at once as the split-screen feature enables you to select the active camera that you can activate its audio.

Cons

  • No lullabies. You can check baby monitors with lullabies here.
  • No recording or playback feature as it does not support local storage using SD card
  • The green light for night vision is visible at night. Great night-vision baby monitors use invisible infrared light that will not bother your baby’s sleep.
  • If you have more than 2 cameras, it doesn’t use the split-screen feature anymore and you’ll have to manually switch from camera to camera or set it to automatically switch every 15 seconds.

Babysense vs Vava Split-Screen Monitors

So, how does Babysense compare with Vava?

  • First, both brands have great quality images on their HD screen. The resolution for both is 720p HD (pixels 1280 x 720).
  • Vava has a larger battery capacity of 4500 mAh while Babysense has an equally large but 500-less capacity. Babysense has a 4000 mAh battery capacity but both have long battery lives.
  • Babysense is voice-activated and can go into sleep mode or standby mode while VAVA is not voice-activated
  • While both have large 4x zoom, Babysense has a longer range of transmission – 960 ft. against VAVA’s 900 ft. range
  • VAVA split-screen baby monitor is more expensive than Babysense split-screen monitor by about $70
  • Vava is only available on its website here while Babysense is being sold by various retailers including Amazon.

JouSecu Baby Monitor with Camera and Audio

If you prefer a dual-camera monitor with split-screen and has superior detection giving you notification whenever your baby cries, then Jousecu Baby Monitor is your best pick.

This Baby Monitor from JouSecu is yet another great pick for the best split screen monitor for twins on my review today. It features a 4.3-inches LCD split screen so you can see the real-time scenes of the two installed cameras with the picked monitor’s audio being the only one you hear. I love the monitor’s customizable room temperature detection that helps maintain a healthy environment for your growing baby.

In addition to screen brightness tuning, 2-way talk, auto night vision mode, and zoom functions, this baby monitor features baby crying detection with 4 sensitivity modes. The system has a 1440mAh rechargeable battery that gives 8 hours of use when fully-charged. For info protection, it uses 2.4GHz FHSS transmission tech with 1000 ft. range outdoors and 300-500 ft indoors.

Features:
In-built 2.4GHz FHSS transmission tech
1000-ft outdoors, 300-500 ft indoors
Crying detection tech
In-built 5 lullabies
4.3” LCD screen
Plug-and-Play mode

Bonoch Baby Monitor

If you are looking for a split-screen dual-camera monitor that gives you the flexibility to switch from split-screen mode to scan mode on a super large 10-inch HD screen, Bonoch Baby Monitor is you best choice.

The large screen and HD display enhance images and videos, providing 10 times more detail without any graininess or blurriness. I found this to be quite impressive, especially when it comes to monitoring my baby’s movements and facial expressions.

This video monitor also gives you the flexibility to choose between scan mode and split-screen mode. With the Scan Mode on, the monitor automatically loops through video feeds from up to 4 cameras every 15 seconds in single-screen mode or every 30 seconds in split-screen mode. This means that you can have peace of mind knowing that you won’t miss a thing, even when you are busy attending to other tasks.

I found the installation of the monitor to be super simple. It comes with the option of wall, table and ceiling mount giving you the option to decide which mounting works best for your nursery.

The setup and installation process is quick and easy, and the intuitive interface makes it a breeze to navigate. You can even control the cameras remotely, so you can have a better view of your little ones from any room in the house. No more tiptoeing around trying to get a good look at your sleeping baby.

In terms of design and style, this brand is close to HiPP split-screen brand in that it seamlessly into any nursery or bedroom. It’s also lightweight and portable, making it perfect for on-the-go parents. Whether you’re on a family vacation or visiting friends, you can bring the bonoch Baby Monitor along to ensure that your little ones are always in sight.

How to Pick The Best Monitors with Split Screen: What to Consider:

  • Split-screen viewing capabilities: Go for dual-camera brands that give you the flexibility to switch from single-view mode(one camera footage at a time), simultaneous dual-viewing mode(2 camera footages side by side) and scan or patrol mode(footage from each camera switching on preset intervals). This flexibility enables you to customize your monitoring experience to suit the needs of each moment.
  • Camera quality: Since you’ll be depending on camera footage to monitor your little ones, it’s important to choose a dual-camera system with high-quality cameras. Look for features such as night vision, wide viewing angles, and pan/tilt/zoom capabilities. Being able to remotely pan/tilt/zoom enables you to get more out of your monitor as you can focus on specific areas of your baby nursery of even zoom on particular baby body parts.
  • Size and quality of screen: A monitor with a larger screen and higher resolution will provide you with a better viewing experience. Look for monitors with at least 5-inch screens and HD resolution (720p or higher). This ensures that you can easily see your little ones and quickly respond to their needs.
  • Range: Consider the range of the dual-camera system before purchasing. If you live in a large house or have a big yard, you’ll need a monitor with a longer range to ensure that you can still keep an eye on your little ones from anywhere in the house. Look for monitors with a range of at least 700 feet.
  • Additional features: Some dual-camera baby monitors come with additional features such as temperature sensors, sound activation, and lullabies. These features can add more convenience to your monitoring experience and make it easier to keep an eye on your little ones. However, keep in mind that these additional features may also increase the cost of the monitor.
  • Features activation/deactivation: Some dual-camera monitors deactivate some features when on split-screen mode. For example, MoonyBaby does not give temperature alerts and battery levels when on split-screen mode. Go for brands that only deactivate audio and not other critical sensors when on split-screen mode.
  • Battery life: It is essential to consider the battery life of your dual-camera baby monitor, especially if you plan on using it for extended periods. Look for monitors that have a long battery life and can be easily recharged. Additionally, some monitors come with low-battery indicators, which can give you an early warning when your monitor needs to be charged.
  • Multiple cameras: Go for monitors that support more than two cameras. This will allow you to monitor multiple rooms or even different angles within the same room. With this feature, you can have peace of mind knowing that your little ones are safe no matter where they are in the house.
  • Split-screen functionality: The main selling point of a dual-camera baby monitor is its split-screen functionality. This allows you to see both cameras simultaneously, making it easier to keep an eye on multiple children at once. Look for monitors with a clear and high-quality split-screen display for the best viewing experience.
  • Ease of use: A baby monitor should be easy to set up and operate. Look for one that comes with clear instructions or even video tutorials to guide you through the setup process. You should also consider the overall design and user-friendliness of the monitor’s interface.

Who should get split-screen monitors:

Split-screen baby monitors are particularly well-suited for several specific groups of caregivers and family scenarios. These include:

  1. Parents of Multiples: Families with twins, triplets, or more can greatly benefit from split-screen monitors. This technology allows parents to keep an eye on each baby simultaneously, ensuring that they can quickly respond to any child’s needs without having to switch views.
  2. Families with More Than One Young Child: If you have a baby and a toddler, or several young children sleeping in different rooms, a split-screen monitor enables you to monitor each child’s room on the same screen. This is especially useful during naps and nighttime, providing reassurance that all children are safe and sound.
  3. Parents Who Want to Monitor Different Areas: Beyond watching over children, split-screen monitors can be used to supervise different areas of the home, such as the baby’s room, the playroom, or even the backyard during playtime. This versatility makes it an excellent tool for ensuring safety throughout the house.
  4. Caregivers Needing Constant Visual Contact: Caregivers who prefer or need to have constant visual contact with the baby or children, due to health concerns or anxiety, may find split-screen monitors particularly reassuring. Seeing all monitored areas at once can provide a level of comfort and immediate awareness of any issues.
  5. Parents Working from Home: For parents who need to juggle work and childcare, a split-screen monitor allows them to keep an eye on their sleeping or playing children while attending to work tasks. This can enhance productivity by reducing the need to physically check on each child frequently.
  6. Large Households: In larger homes where children’s rooms are far apart, or the nursery is on a different floor from the main living areas, split-screen monitors offer a way to bridge the distance, ensuring that caregivers can visually monitor each child’s safety and well-being without constantly moving from room to room.
